Contestants ‘gear up’ for Miss Antigua Carnival Queen Pageant tonight

    ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – TONIGHT (July 27), seven beautiful and talented young women of Antigua will be competing for the Miss Antigua Carnival Queen Pageant.
     
    The contestants that will be judged on Talent, Evening Wear, Interview, Carnival Costume and Swimwear are Jahmeel Jones, Janelle Alexander, Melissa Bird, Nathalia Barnes, Ryancia Henry, Shelana George and Sharlene Colthard.
     
    This year’s show is dubbed “My Fiesta” as each contestant will represent her ideology of Carnival, which includes aspects of the celebration such as mas, fete, cuisine and steel pan.
     
    The event is described as the most prestigious and coveted pageant in Antigua and one of the highlights for the “It’s Yours, It’s Mine, Carnival 2009” lineup.
     
    The carnival activities will continue with Teen Splash on July 28 while the Caribbean Melting Pot is scheduled for July 29 and National Panorama on July 30.
     
    The Jaycees Caribbean Queen Pageant is slated for July 31 with 12 countries competing, while the Party Monarch will be held on August 1.
     
    On August 2, the Calypso Monarch competition will be held, and on August 3, revellers will jam through the streets of St. John’s for the J’Ouvert.
     
    The curtains will be brought down on the festivities with Last Lap which will be held on August 4.
     
    The reigning Miss Antigua Carnival Queen is Derri-Ann Browne.
