Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 10, 2018 (SKNIS): Delta Petroleum St. Kitts Ltd. renewed its partnership with the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services (SKNFRS) and its commitment to contribute to the positive development of the nation’s youth by sponsoring the agency’s Summer Safety Programme.

At a handover ceremony on Tuesday (July 10) at the Basseterre Fire Station, Delta Petroleum’s Regional General Manager, Bevis Sylvester, assisted by the Island Manager, Kester Caines, presented a cheque for $5,000 to support the staging of this year’s camp. This marks the third year that the company is sponsoring the programme which has been held for the past 16 years. Children between the ages five and 12 years will attend the sessions that will run from July 16-20, 2018.

“Fire safety is very important, especially in our field of petroleum, and if you can get the youths involved [in the camp] from an early stage they will have a better understanding and appreciation of fire safety,” Mr. Caines said.

Mr. Sylvester agreed with his colleague and said that Delta Petroleum will continue to support the programme as it has been beneficial to the 400 children that participate in the one-week camp every year. He added that when the public spends with Delta Petroleum St. Kitts, they are also contributing to a brighter future for the country.

“When they support Delta, they are actually supporting themselves; they are actually supporting the youth, the future of the Federation,” Mr. Sylvester stated.

The theme for the 16th Annual Summer Safety Programme is “Protecting the Future of Our Federation Through Fire Safety Awareness.” Classes will be held simultaneously at the fire station in Basseterre, the Edgar T. Morris Primary School in Tabernacle and the Sandy Point Primary School.

Fire Sub Station Officer, Lesroy Caines, accepted the cheque on behalf of the SKNFRS.

“I want to say on behalf of Fire Chief, Everette O’Garro, the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services and the organizing committee for our Summer Safety Programme, a heartfelt thank you to Mr. Sylvester and Delta Petroleum for this tremendous contribution and the commitment that he intends to keep us in mind for the next seven years. This contribution will go a long way in the success of our programme,” he said.
