Autopsy confirms death by ruptured aorta

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Jul. 18.2018 – FOLLOWING an autopsy conducted on the body of Tau Johnson, it was revealed that the young man died as a result of acute internal blood loss.
     
    Conducted by Forensic Pathologist, Dr. Valery Alexandrov, yesterday July 17, it was concluded that the 20-year-old’s death was as a result of acute internal blood loss due to a ruptured aorta sustained in a vehicular accident.
     
    Johnson was involved in a fatal accident on July 07, 2018 along Wellington Road, and that incident caused national outcries from concerned citizens.
     
    Both the Ministry of Health and the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force have launched separate investigations into the incident.
     
    Updating the nation on the latest with regards to the police’s investigation, Commissioner of Police, Ian Queeley told reporters that at the Prime Minister’s monthly press conference that they have received the CCTV footage from the surrounding areas and are working with the mechanic.
     
    “I’m happy to say that all the measures that we outlined would be taking place in the investigation. The CCTV footage, as we said, have been reviewed; the independent mechanic and lead Inspector has analyzed both the motor cycle and the vehicle. The team to investigate the accident, headed by senior police officer is in place,” explained Queeley.
     
    The top cop disclosed that though they are recording statements, they are appealing for eyewitnesses to come forward and detail what transpired on the day in question.
     
    In setting the record straight on hospital staff in light of criticisms, Junior Minister, Senator Wendy Phipps explained that their training never stops. She said the JNF Hospital has a built in in-service training unit “that deals with training and retraining of its officers".

    The Police High Command launched a high-level investigation into Johnson's death after it was reported that the young man crashed and subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
     
    A video that circulated on social media showed that the EMTs did not handle the youngster with due care, forcing a public debate on their training.
     
    The police force’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
