BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Jul. 18.2018 – OFFICIALS at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport have given the all clear as the port of entry reopened one of its runways that was damaged.
According to reports, a departing Amerijet flight damaged a section of the runway while landing at around 4:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon.
The damage forced officials to shut down the runway for several hours as they sought to have the problem fixed in a timely manner.
That closure spun rumours that the airport was shut, a notion that was denied by Theodore Phipps, a Senior Representative at the airport.
Contacted today for a comment, Phipps confirmed that the Amerijet flight did cause damage to the runway which has now been fixed.
He stated that at no point was the airport shut. In fact, he disclosed that the incident occurred around the time indicated, noting that they worked on the damaged area and subsequently reopened the runway at 8:00 p.m.
