CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – THE six beauties competing for the title of Miss Culture 2009 warmed up for the main event with a performance on Sunday night (July 26) that left the hundreds of fans gathered at the Cultural Complex in Charlestown yearning for more.
The Sensational Six, as they are dubbed, strutted on the stage in five segments on a night when there was hardly an empty seat available. Beginning with the Cultural Woman attire, the beauties sought to woo the judges with a succession of stunning appearances. The attire was required to be made from madras material and sea-island cotton. It also had to depict Nevisian Heritage in its design and emphasis had to be placed on the significance of the wear.
They also appeared in a One-piece Swimsuit segment which was followed by a Two-piece category and a special Pretty in Pink section in recognition of breast cancer awareness on Nevis.
The young beauties also appeared in a Cultural Woman Speech segment during which they were required to highlight the contribution of one female to the preservation of Nevis’ cultural heritage. Miss Island Tyres and Hardware, Tamerelle Brown chose Bernadette Maynard as her icon; Miss Carib Brewery St. Kitts and Nevis Ltd, Mika O’Brien chose Eglantine Duderry; Miss Lime, Tatiana Dore chose Shirley Dore-Wilkes; Miss Coastal Air Transport, Masinda Nisbett chose Lyra Richards; Miss Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis, Kishsandra Williams chose Inita “Tita” Lawrence; and Miss NAGICO Insurances, Cindy Liburd chose Hazel Francis.
The points earned on Sunday night were not revealed but would be carried forward to the final night next Sunday.
