Police investigating two attempted murder incidents

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MEMBERS of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) are currently investigating two attempted murder incidents - one in St. Peters last evening (Jul. 28) and the other in Newton Ground in the wee hours of Sunday  (Jul. 29).

    According to a police press release, a shooting was reported at about 8:35 p.m. last evening and several units responded.

    “Preliminary investigations have revealed that 35-year-old Winston Johnson of John England Village, St. Peters was going into his vehicle at his home when he heard several gunshots. He ran for cover and received a gunshot wound to his buttocks while doing so,” the press statement noted. 

    Johnson was transported to the JNF Hospital for surgery and is said to be warded in a stable condition. The scene was processed by officers from the Crime Scene Unit and items of evidential value were taken into custody.

    The press release also informed that a second report of a shooting in Newton Ground was received shortly after midnight this morning and several units also responded.

    Initial investigations have revealed that 20-year-old Akyl Mills of Lovers Lane, Newton Ground was at a bar in that village when a lone gunman entered the bar and fired gunshots at him. He received a gunshot wound to his back. Other persons were present and ran for safety during the incident. No one else was hurt. 

    Mills was also transported to the JNF Hospital where he was treated for his injury and discharged. The scene was processed by the Crime Scene Unit.

    The release stated that one person is in police custody assisting with the investigation of the Newton Ground incident but enquiries into both incidents are ongoing.

    Police are asking anyone with information regarding these two or any other incidents to call any Police Station or the Violent Crimes Unit at 467-1887, 467-1888, 662-3468.
