Windies looking to be consistent heading into T20

By: Jermine Abel, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Jul. 31.2018 – DESPITE a tough loss to Bangladesh on Saturday by 18-runs, the West Indies will be looking to leave St. Kitts and Nevis with a win, and a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20 series.

West Indies failed to put together consistent passages of play in the final one day international, which saw them losing the three-match ODI series 2-1.

Coach Stuart Law told SKNVibes Sport that they will make changes ahead of the T20 series, including resting several of the players from the limited over legs.

Law commended the Bangladesh players, highlighting that it has been a closely fought series between both teams but noted that his team need to go out onto the pitch and play cricket.

“Our T20 side is pretty handy in terms of getting up and getting ready quickly. Carlos Brathwaite runs the team pretty well,” said Law.

Speaking about his team putting together consistent performances, Law told SKNVibes Sport that it is an area that his unit has to work on with a view of performing well at the 2019 Cricket World Cup in England and Wales.

“We need to create that consistency and maintain that as soon as we get it. But from the test side, I think the team was much fitter than majority of the boys here (ODI squad). They were able to produce, day in and day out, and we are addressing that. We are getting better in this format (ODI), but we still have a way to go,” the coach acknowledged.

However, the Windies head coach acknowledged several of the stand out performances, including those of the former Under-19 captain, Shimron Hetmyer and Keemo Paul. He noted that their performances mean “great things” for the West Indies.

“Right around the world, the youth of the world cricket powers are really good. West Indies youths are pretty good too…It is great [because] it gives the old guys, the old players in the side a bit of fresh air and a bit of drag along…We have to ensure that they become more experienced very quickly and also more consistent,” added Law.

The first T20 international bowls off from 8:30 p.m. at Warner Park.
