Kollision Band continues to elevate

By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Kollision Band of St. Kitts can no longer be called a small fry among big fish in the Caribbean Sea, and evidence of this reality lies in the musical group’s ability to rise to challenges on every occasion.

Since its inception in 2003, members of the band have continued perfecting their skills. They have gained their collective experience by performing at small ‘gigs’ and, the young men, who are no older than 25, managed to keep their focus and eyes on the prize.

Last Carnival, and probably for the first time ever, the band made its presence felt during the J’Ouvert and Parade Day with a song called ‘Backshot’ off their ‘L E Vation’ album and came close to winning the Road March title.

The album reflects the growth of the band, for it now has an efficient management team in the likes of Shervin White and Adeola Moore.

Over the past six years, the band has gained very significant success and, following the rating of its album and some hits which include ‘Karate’, it has graduated to perform in foreign lands.

On May 6, the band performed for its first overseas gig in Anguilla, where the members impressed the attendees to such a degree that they were booked for two gigs during the Carnival celebrations this weekend.

The band left for Statia yesterday morning (July 29) to perform as headline act for that island’s International Night, which is a part of the Carnival celebrations.

The band will perform in Anguilla on a boat ride alongside Pantha Vibes on August 1 and later in the evening for a pre-J’Ouvert warm-up party.

According to White, the band plans to take its music to a higher level and garner as much overseas exposure as possible.

“We aim to win Road March and be the number one band in the Federation. The guys are young and can also be seen as role models for others as they are doing something positive by using their talents and not involved in any criminal activities,” he said.

The band is made up of nine members and is led by Travis ‘3D’ James.
