Police were called to assist in removing Vaughan

     BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Aug. 16.2018- AFTER being charged with four offences with respect to his failure to exit the premises of the Customs and Excise Department, Bird Rock, Customs Officer, Larry Vaughan will have his day in court this October.

    Vaughan, who is at the center of a fiasco over a letter directed to Prime Minister, Dr. Timothy Harris, was arrested after he failed to adhere to a police request to the leave the premises.

    The customs officer received a letter on Monday (Aug.13) requesting that he proceed on administrative leave until further notice; however, he failed to proceed, and police were called in. He was later charged with: Trespassing, Obstruction, Resisting Arrest and Battery on a police officer.
     
    Police in a statement yesterday explaining the incident, said that after midday on August 14, officers received a request for assistance from Her Majesty's Customs and Excise Department.

    Based on the findings from their preliminary investigations, “Larry Vaughan of Keys Village was asked to leave the premises by the Comptroller of Customs several times. After failing to do so, the assistance of the police was requested. When they arrived, the police also asked Mr. Vaughan to leave the premises. When he failed to follow the instructions, he was arrested for trespassing and taken into police custody; however, while carrying out the arrest, Mr. Vaughan obstructed the officer in the execution of her duties”.
     
    After being charged with the four offences, he received bail in the amount of $5,000 with two sureties and is expected to be back in the Basseterre Magistrate’s Court on October 02, 2018.
