NEW R.O.C. (Taiwan) Ambassador pays Courtesy Call on Min. of Education

    (EMU) – St. Kitts, August 16 2018 -- New Resident Ambassador to the Republic of China (Taiwan), Tom Chih-Chiang Lee, on Wednesday 15th August, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Education et al, Hon. Shawn K. Richards. 

     

    The Minister welcomed and congratulated Ambassador Lee on his new appointment and reiterated the Government’s support for continued relations between the two countries.  Minister Richards echoed the Government’s appreciation for the support over the years on a number of critical projects.  
     
    He announced, “We in St. Kitts and Nevis consider Taiwan to be one of our best friends that we have had over the years, and we will continue to advocate on behalf of Taiwan.” 
     
    During the meeting, Min. Richards and Ambassador Lee exchanged views on possible areas of further cooperation and reflected on the projects that are ongoing between the two countries.  These include, scholarships given to nationals of the Federation to study in Taiwan, the implementation of the second phase of the closed-circuit television (CCTV).  
     
    Ambassador Lee expressed his readiness to work, and commitment to prioritizing the enhancement of Technical and Vocational Education and Training. He stated, “Before I came to St. Kitts I received a briefing from the Deputy Minister of Education [in Taiwan] to speak about vocational training and I look forward to discussing more in this area with you.” 
     
    Both parties articulated success and best wishes for a productive and long relationship between the two countries. 
     
    Former Resident Ambassador George Gow We Chiou, made his last visit with the Minister on 31stJuly, 2018, before officially demitting office on August 04. 
     
    St. Kitts and Nevis has enjoyed diplomatic relations with the Republic of China (Taiwan), since gaining independence from Britain in September 1983.  The relationship was officially established in October 1983 and has been jointly valuable ever since.
