Prime Minister Harris expresses condolences to fellow Team Unity colleague Hon. Ian “Patches” Liburd

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – PRIME MINISTER of St. Kitts and Nevis, Hon. Dr. Timothy S. Harris has extended his deepest sympathies to his friend and Cabinet colleague, Hon. Ian “Patches” Liburd on the passing of his son, Mikhail Liburd.

The 32-year-old was gunned down on Monday night (Aug. 27) at Pine Gardens, Shadwell as he was exiting a vehicle while visiting a friend in the area.

Dr. Harris also extends condolences to Mikhail’s mother, Iris Williams as well as family members and friends who are presently grieving the loss.

Quoting a Bible verse yesterday (Aug. 28), Dr. Harris said "'Psalm 34:18 offers the assurance that ‘The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.’”

He noted that his Team Unity government along with himself will lift up Minister Liburd and his family in prayer, adding that Minister Liburd and him have a friendship dating back many years.

“My Team Unity Government and I lift up our beloved colleague and his whole family in prayer and ask God to heal the unimaginable heartbreak of having to bury a child.  Minister Liburd can count on us to give him the emotional support needed during this incredibly painful time.

“As a trusted colleague and confidant, Patches and I are bound by a special friendship that goes back many years.  Our bond is built on our shared patriotism and love of politics, as well as mutual admiration, respect and understanding,” he stated.

Dr. Harris extended comfort to Minister Liburd by ensuring him that Team Unity and the entire Federation is with him as he grieves for his son.

“While tragedy knocks us to our knees, it also brings us closer to the people in our lives who will always be around to hold us by the hand and pick us up off the ground after we’ve fallen into despair. Patches, I am here for you, the country stands with you, and our Cabinet will only grow closer in this ordeal,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister, in his capacity as Minister of National Security, urges anyone with information regarding this incident to report it to the relevant authorities.
