PAM heading for a fourth straight election defeat

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JULY 31ST 2009 (CUOPM) – The opposition People’s Action Movement (PAM) has sought refuge in the High Court to slow down the preparation for the next general elections because it is not ready.

And St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said the delay will not prevent the People’s Action Movement from its fourth straight defeat whenever the election is called.

Dr. Douglas said injunctions filed in the High Court by the Hon. Shawn Richards, the lone PAM representative in the 15-member lawmaking body and the un-elected political Leader, Mr. Lindsay Grant, “is a political trial where PAM is not ready for the election. They have sought refuge in the court in an attempt to slowdown the preparation as we move closer to the election date.

“This I emphasise will not stop the elections from taking place and this cannot save the People’s Action Movement from a sound thrashing for the fourth time by the Labour Party,” said Prime Minister Douglas in a statement to the media as he left the Lee Llewellyn Moore Judicial and Legal Complex Thursday afternoon.

Dr. Douglas had earlier given evidence after he was called as a witness in the constitutional matter involving the report of the Constituency Boundaries Commission.
