BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Sept. 09, 2018 - TROPICAL Storm Helene has been upgraded to hurricane status, and is currently barreling towards the Lesser Antilles, as Isaac is also making its way towards the Caribbean.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) in its afternoon advisory placed Hurricane Helene at 13.4 North and 26.0 West, approximately 145 miles or 230 Kilometer South West of the Southernmost Cabo Verde Islands with maximum sustained winds of 75 miles per hour.

Forecasters at the Florida-based center said the Hurricane is moving at 13 mph (20 km/h), and a turn towards the west-northwest is expected on Monday.

The NHC expects additional strengthening over the next 48 hours; as hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 15 miles (30 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles.

Meanwhile, the center of Tropical Storm Isaac is located near latitude 14.5 North, longitude 40.3 West.  And is said to be moving toward the west near 12 mph (19 km/h) and is expected to accelerate during the next 36 hours.

Forecasters predict a westward motion to continue through the end of the week, with Isaac expected to move across the Lesser Antilles and into the eastern Caribbean Sea Wednesday night or Thursday.

Meteorologists expect this Tropical Storm to become a hurricane tonight, as it is currently packing winds of 70 miles per hour.
