Tortola, September 10, 2018 -- Being environmental conscious Gavin Baird and Shavoy Samuels are taking a proactive step to alleviate the waste disposal issues plaguing the Territory. The two launched a recycling company that aims to provide an eco-friendly alternative to the present garbage dumping situation.

The pair launched their company Alkebulan Minds Recycling Inc. (AMR) in April and since then have been actively working to keep the BVI pristine. As green entrepreneurs, Baird and Samuels are committed to use their business to decrease and in time eliminate incineration in the British Virgin Islands.

Their aim is to provide a state-of-the-art recycling service that curtails the present waste stream of recyclable materials. AMR is aiming to work with individuals and businesses to push forward this recycling service, that was noted to be needed at this current time.

The entrepreneurs said that they are enthusiastic, committed, and confident that with perseverance recycling would become a norm in the Territory and a valuable alternative to the current method of waste disposal.

AMR is hoping to collect a wide range of raw recyclable materials such as: Plastics, Glass, Tire, Cardboard. E-waste (technological devices), scrap metal (various kinds), waste oil (various types), medical waste, Paper, etc.

The items will then be sorted, sterilized (if needed), repackaged into shipping containers and transported to international Corporations who have expressed intent to purchase raw recyclable items.

“In a 2015 report from the Department of Solid Waste it was stated that the British Virgin Islands has on record over 40,000 tons of solid waste. If 2000lbs makes one ton how much pounds would be in the BVI right now? This is a clear indication that recycling is the only plausible solution for such amounts! A.M.R. Inc. expects that the corporation will be aggressively expanding during the first three years of operation, we have also had initial conversations with land owners on neighboring Virgin Gorda, Anegada and Jost Van Dyke,” Baird and Samuels explained.

Both expressed an intent to implement recycling campaigns that will effectively target the youth of the BVI by collaborations with non-profit organizations such as, Green VI, Y.E.P, M.A.L.E, A.D.R.A (Seventh Day Adventist) and Pathfinders to assist in their Non-profit Recycling Agenda for seven major beaches in the BVI and National Parks.

During the recently concluded Emancipation festivities Baird and Samuels donated their time and resources by offering recycling services at the Festival Village.
