BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Sept. 11.2018 – WITH Tropical Storm Isaac racing towards the Caribbean, meteorologists has placed St. Kitts and Nevis under Tropical Storm as several other islands are under Hurricane Watch.
The St. Christopher Airs and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) in a statement confirmed that the federation is under a watch, as Tropical Storm Isaac is currently located 14.6 North and 49.7 West, about 775 miles East of the Lesser Antilles or approximately 880 miles east of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Forecasters placed the maximum sustained wind S at 70 miles per hour and movement at 16 miles per hour.
The Government of France has issued a Hurricane Watch for Guadeloupe and Martinique, whilst the government of Barbados has issued a Hurricane Watch for Dominica.
The met. service of Antigua and Barbuda has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Antigua and Montserrat, and St. Kitts & Nevis.
In their mid-morning report, the National Hurricane Center projects that TS Isaac is anticipated to move near or over the central Lesser Antilles on Thursday and move into the eastern Caribbean Sea Thursday night.
Meteorologists are urging people with interests elsewhere in the Leeward Islands to monitor the progress of Isaac as additional watches could be issued this afternoon or evening.
“The St. Kitts Met Services is closely monitoring Tropical Storm Isaac which is expected to strengthen further before weakening by mid-week as it continues to move towards the island chain. Residents are reminded that we are in the peak of the hurricane season and are encouraged to ensure that their disaster plan is ready. We will continue to provide daily updates on Hurricane Isaac which should be in the vicinity of the island chain by mid-week.”
A Tropical Storm Watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, generally within 48 hours.
