Gayle confident as teams begin CPL knockout rounds

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com
GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Sept. 11.2018 – WITH the knockout rounds of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) set to bowl off tonight at the Guyana National Stadium Providence, all teams are prepped and ready to qualify for the finals.

Tonight’s action will see a battle of the top two, with the Guyana Amazon Warriors squaring off against the Trinbago Knight Riders from 6:00 p.m. – the winning team qualify directly for the finals.

Tomorrow night’s game will see the Jamaica Tallawahs locking horns with the St. Kitts-Nevis Patriots, with the winner of that clash taking on the loser of the first game with the ticket to the finals on the line.

Speaking at a press conference in Georgetown, Patriots’ captain, Chris Gayle acknowledged that his team has had an “up and down” season but said they are looking forward to the game against the Tallawahs.

“Well I have to be satisfied with where we are at at this point in time. To be honest: it has been a lot of ups and downs but like I say it is a fresh start for these four teams and the team with the momentum will have a slight edge going into Trinidad as well,” the captain believes.

Gayle jokingly pointed out that it is either Jamaica or the Patriots that will take the trophy this year.

Chris Green, Captain of the Warriors showered praise on his opponents for their outstanding performance so far in the tournament.

“The Knight Riders are the form team in all competition and they have played some really good cricket,” Green said. “We take a lot of confidence from last nights but going into tomorrow nights clash they are going to make some changes through the guys that they have rested last night. And I think it’s really going to be an exciting clash again.”

Knight Riders Captain, Dwayne Bravo congratulated all the teams for making it to this leg of the tournament, acknowledging that no one knows who will win the title just yet.

“Anyone can take it because all four teams have good players and [big] match players… To the luxury of finishing one and two, you have two chances but at the same time that doesn’t give you the right to make it into the finals because you can easily have two bad games,” said Bravo.

Speaking on his first year of being a Captain, Andre Russell said that it was a great achievement for him.

He noted that he is looking forward to an exciting encounter on Wednesday again the Patriots.

“It’s not going to be easy from now; every game is a final so we have to approach it as a final,” acknowledged Russell.

The action bowls off at 6:00 p.m. this evening.
