Chairperson of the Farm Queen Pageant committee, Ms Patricia Claxton, on behalf of the two other members, Dr Patricia Bartlett-Powell and Mrs Shirley Wilkes, introduced the four contestants. “The ladies will do three appearances, the icebreaker, the talent and the evening wear,” pointed out Ms Claxton.

They were Ms Monique Washington, sponsored by the Eastern Caribbean Group of Companies (ECGC), Ms Tamu Reid, sponsored by the Embassy of the Republic of China on Taiwan, Ms Jasmine Joshua, sponsored by award-winning farmer, Mr Mervin Tyson through his retail outlet, Mansa’s Last Stop at Cades Bay, and Ms Shana Phillip, sponsored by the Caribbean Amblyomma Programme (CAP).
According to the Director of Agriculture, Mr Samuel Powell, “This year, 2004, we celebrate ten years of having our Open Day exhibition and we have organised quite a number of activities to celebrate this anniversary.
“We have changed our venue from the Prospect Agricultural Station, and we will be having it at the Villa at the Charlestown Secondary School grounds. The exhibition will be held the last weekend this month, Thursday March 25, Friday March 26 and Saturday March 27.”

The Farm Queen Pageant competition and a Farm King Calypso competition will be held on the night of Saturday March 27. He said that they had received confirmation from ten seasoned calypsonians who include the reigning Nevis Calypso Monarch, King Astro (Oscar Browne) and a lady entrant, Colette Lewis, ‘Lady Lewis’.
Others are Odito ‘Adowah’ Morton best known for his exploits as a junior calypsonian under the stage name ‘Tu Kid’, Andrew ‘Hollywood’ Nisbett, Carlisle ‘Bhingi’ Pemberton, Trevor ‘Daddy Fresh Cold’ Wilkin, Alfred ‘Baker’ Newton, Calver Lee ‘Garlic’ Swanston, Andrew ‘Murray’ Hendrickson, and Wingrove ‘Wingie’ Powell.
“Do not let anybody tell you about this,” advised Mr Powell. “You have to be there to witness this historic event for yourself. Each calypsonian will be singing one song based on agriculture and very soon you will be hearing these songs on the radio.”
