By: (RCL), Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts:  15 September 2018 – The Rotary Club of Liamuiga (RCL) is a service club which provides support and services in many areas within the communities throughout the Federation of St Kitts & Nevis. The Club undertakes various projects to serve the needs of our children, youths and the elderly through youth activities, vocational development and community outreach.

The Club’s projects for the current Rotary Year, which started on 1 July 2018 and ends on 30 June 2019,  include, but are not limited to, Annual Saddlers Home For The Elderly Heroes Day Luncheon; Annual Christmas Gift Basket Distribution Project; Pre-School Reading Project; School Package Distribution Project for Deserving Primary School Students; Annual Primary School Spelling Bee Competition; Talent Search Competition For Primary & High Schools; Collaboration With Foot Care Clinic; Vehicle Raffle; and New Year’s Eve Charity Ball. The RCL seeks to “Be The Inspiration” in these identified efforts and many others in keeping with this year’s Rotary International theme.

The RCL has for several years been hosting the Annual Heroes Day Luncheon for the residents of the Saddlers Home For The Elderly and other elderly residents in Saddlers and neighbouring communities. This Luncheon is the RCL’s way of honouring the unsung heroes of these communities who have collectively contributed hundreds of years of service, many of them in the public sector of the Federation.

For this Annual Luncheon, Members of the RCL prepare the dishes on the menu agreed with the Caregiver in charge of the Home and are also responsible for serving the meal to the elderly.

This year will be no exception as the Members of the RCL will journey to Saddlers to conduct the 14th Annual Heroes Day Luncheon on Monday, 17 September 2018, the day on which National Heroes Day will be celebrated this year. Rotarians and Members of Sponsored Clubs, Interact Club of Cayon High School (ICCHS), Rotaract Club of Nevis (RCN), and Rotary Community Corps of Basseterre (RCCB), will gather at the Home at 11.00am in order to facilitate serving of lunch starting at 12 noon.

RCL Members will also provide the Home with a few hurricane preparedness items and some needed household items.

Entertainment will be provided by Craig Mc Dowell on steel pan while it is known that one or two of the elderly stalwarts can be depended on to do their bit in speech and perhaps song.

The Luncheon is always well received by the seniors and this year a similar response is expected. The RCL Members look forward to this Annual Event with the usual anticipation of provide Rotary Service to the unsung heroes of the Saddlers and surrounding communities.
