Tyrell Williams Primary gets facelift

Principal Edwards and Pastor James outside freshly-painted school

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – STAFF and students of Tyrell Williams Primary will be pleasantly surprised when the new academic year begins, as the school’s exterior has been given a fresh coat of paint.

The facelift is the work of delegates belonging to a regional Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church summer camp that was recently held on the school grounds. The 180 campers and their administrators supplied the funds and manpower for the repainting, which was done at no charge to the school’s purse.

According to SDA Pastor Wilmoth James, the altruistic act was their way of repaying school officials for agreeing to house the camp.

“The camp normally does a community project during each session. This year, we decided to take on the challenge of providing the painting colour. The campers provided the labour and raised around $6 000 to buy supplies, and TDC Ltd. sponsored the rest.

“This is our way of showing the staff and students of Tyrell Williams how grateful we are for their kindness. We’re happy to leave this mark because we think the enhanced surroundings would aid development of their learning skills,” he said.

Principal Terrance Edwards concurred with the assertion and noted he was sure there would be positive effects in students’ study habits. He also expressed his “profound gratitude” to James and the rest of the campers.

“For over three years our PTA executive has been trying to get the school re-painted, but we were unsuccessful in getting sponsorship. So when James said they wanted to re-paint the school, we were very pleased.

“It just goes to show that when you do a good deed another comes back to you. When the children and teachers return in September, they will be happily surprised,” Edwards said.
