Man shot multiple times in Newtown

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE silence of early morning in Newtown was shattered when the sound of bullets ripped through the air leaving a 29-year-old male injured in the process.

Reports reaching SKNVibes indicate that at about 4:00 this morning (Aug. 3), Everette ‘Knitty’ Hewlette of Taylors Village was at Mad House Alley when “three masked men attacked him with guns”. The reports further stated that he sought refuge in a house at Pitcairn Street and his attackers aborted their mission after being chased by dogs, but not before injuring him.

The reports also stated that an approximate 11 gunshots were fired, a number of which struck the victim to various parts of his body. SKNVibes understands that assistance was rendered by a neighbour who summoned additional help for the wounded man.

A police unit reportedly responded some 20 minutes following the incident and, about 25 minutes after, an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) unit arrived on scene.

According to a press release issued by the police, they “responded to a report of shooting at Pitcairn Street, Newtown…at about 4:00 a.m.”, and on arrival at the scene they met Hewlette with multiple gunshot wounds to the jaw, shoulder, arm and leg.

They reported that he was taken to the Joseph N. France General Hospital where he received treatment and is warded “in stable condition”.

Although investigations are ongoing, the police have indicated that they have yet to make an arrest in relation to the incident.

This shooting occurred approximately one hour before that which claimed the life of 31-year-old Stephen ‘Lick Shot’ Thomas of Phillips Village, St. Kitts who was gunned down in Nevis.  Reports reaching this media house are that three men are in police custody assisting with the investigations.

Persons who may have information which could assist the police in solving the Hewlette shooting are asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at 465-2241 ext 230. All information received will be treated with strict confidence.
