Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 18, 2018 (RSCNPF): The Divisional Commanders over Districts "A", "B" and "C" have been analysing the crime trends in the Federation and have re-strategised their operations plan with results already being seen.
Superintendent Cromwell Henry, who is responsible for Division "A", explained that his division has been divided into zones, adding that the objective of the strategy is to deter criminals and reassure the public.
"We realize that there is much fear of crime among the public which is worst than crime itself. Therefore, to reassure residents, while deterring criminals, we have divided the Division into six (6) zones and assigned a marked police vehicle with at least two officers to each zone. They are required to patrol their zones - stopping at intervals to conduct Vehicle Check Points or foot patrols to interact with residents," Superintendent Henry said.
In Division "B", Superintendent Travis Rogers said that his division was engaged in numerous operations of several types.
"These entail search operations on houses and vehicles, as well as stop and search exercises. On the traffic control side, we are continuing to conduct Vehicle Check Points and have been manning the round-a-bout at Molineaux on a daily basis," Superintendent Rogers disclosed. "Mobile and foot patrols are done daily and include the assistance of the St Kitts-Nevis Defence Force who have been helping with nightly mobile and foot patrol in the Division. The Anti-Gang Task Force (AGTF) also operates in the division and have been dealing mainly with gang-related activities."
VCPs, as well as stop and search exercises, are also being done in Division "C" (Nevis). Soldiers from the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF) have been assisting with mobile and foot patrols there as well. These activities are part of the Crime Prevention Strategy being implemented by Superintendent Lyndon David. Other activities included in the strategy are drone surveillance, visiting business establishments, sharing crime prevention tips and vigorously enforcing the traffic laws, such as, those against heavy tint, unlicensed vehicles, driving without a valid driver's licence and driving without insurance.
"The Nevis Division of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, in compliance with the overall mandate of the Force, has embarked on a robust Crime Prevention Strategy. As a result of this strategy, a number of successes have been made, so we must first give thanks to God for his mercy and protection, and also to the Nevis Island Administration, the officers of the Division, the contingent of soldiers from the SKNDF, the residents and businesses in Nevis for their contribution," said Superintendent David.
