I-Soursop crowned Culturama Senior Kaiso King

I-Soursop rendering his ‘Don’t lose it’
By: Donovan Matthews, SKNVibes
CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – I-SOURSOP made history in the Federation when for the first time in 35 years a Kittitian had captured the Culturama Senior Kaiso crown.

The historic feat was achieved early Sunday morning (Aug. 2) at the Cultural Complex in Charlestown, Nevis when he dethroned teenager De Inspirer and held off a strong challenge from Dis ‘n’ Dat to finish with 506 of a possible 600 points.

His tally was a mere three points ahead of Dis ‘n’ Dat who managed 503 to finish First Runner-up, while King Meeko took the Second Runner-up position with 491.

The new king sealed the deal with his ‘We are too small’ and ‘Don’t lose it’. Dis ‘n’ Dat put in a strong challenge in the second round with his crowd-pleasing ‘Hold the Fort’, but he was probably let down by his ‘Chance to shine’ in the first round. King Meeko’s efforts produced ‘The Garden of Eden’ and ‘Nevis still nice’.

De Inspirer could not reproduce his heroics of 2008 and failed to place with his ‘Bring back my coconut’ and ‘Green power’.

Also failing to place were: Nutsy with ‘Peace for the nation’ and ‘Miracle man’; Pungwa with ‘Set them free’ and ‘Don’t blame this government’; Astro with ‘One basket’ and ‘Culturama Rules’; and Hollywood with ‘Calypsonians represented’ and ‘Eyes don’t lie’.

At the end of the show, before the winners were announced, Dis ‘n’ Dat, whose real name is Keith Scarborough, was honoured by Yvette Jordan for his contributions to Kaiso and Culturama since 1976.
