St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Constituency #8 candidate and Parliamentary Representative, Hon. Cedric Roy Liburd joined his fellow constituents in a soft yet symbolic re-opening of the Cayon Constituency office on Tuesday 4th August 2009.
Work had started three weeks prior to the opening to refurbish the building on Wade Street, Cayon which has continuously housed the constituency office since it was officially opened in 1992 ahead of the November 1993 polls.
The evening was chaired by former Cayon resident and veteran campaigner Sinclair Chiverton, who more than ably reminded the people of the sterling service Minister Liburd has given to Cayon and all of Constituency #8. He further warned the district of house little had been done the last time Cayon voted for its own without consideration for the advancement of the community. “Because of his record alone, Cedric deserves another term to work for the people of Cayon,” Chiverton concluded.
The feature address was given by the three time parliamentarian who spoke passionately to the vibrant gathering on Wade Street. Minister Liburd first took the opportunity to thank his supporters and those who gave him that chance to make the difference in his constituency and country. Liburd applauded the community people for believing that together Labour and the people could deliver the housing projects, the community centre with upgraded library and postal facilities and a reliable water supply which are some of the hallmarks of his tenure of service.
“Your support in Cayon has never been taken for granted. Cedric Liburd and Labour have always loved you, and will always work to empower all the people of this constituency,” said Liburd who also revealed that in new term he will work harder for an even more prosperous constituency.
Other remarks were made by Constituency Chairman, Mr. Cecil Gus Williams, with the opening prayer and the prayer of consecration of the building rendered by Pastor Desmond Tyson-Hobson, a constituent.
The brief opening ceremony came to a close with the Vote of Thanks made by Cayon Labour District Chairperson, Ms. Nerys Chiverton. Ms. Chiverton cautioned the gathering and those in the sound of her voice not to take lightly the work of our servants like Minister Liburd who offer us capable leadership at a time when it is needed more than ever.
The crowds were entertained to light refreshments and games of dominoes well into the night. The Cayon office joins those at St. Peter’s and Conaree as a nerve center of an organised campaign of the Hon. Cedric Liburd and the Labour Party in Constituency #8.
