Nevis Opposition Leader’s office ready

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis, Oct. 06 2018 – NEVIS’ Premier Mark Brantley has confirmed that office for the Leader of the Opposition, Joseph Parry has been completed and will be operational soon.

The disclosure came during Brantley’s Tuesday (Oct. 2) press conference, where he told reporters that whilst there is no substantive leader of the opposition in the Nevis Island Assembly, they have nevertheless proceeded to make available that office space.

Joseph Parry, Representative for Nevis Five, was the only candidate that was able to win his seat at the December polls. That means that he could not nominate himself to the opposition leader position.

Brantley noted that his government will make the necessary resources available to the office, disclosing that the new office is located in Cotton Ground.

“…Mr. Parry now has a fully functional office that the NIA is providing. I think it is $5, 800 per month to support that office. We have members of staff that are hired to be his support staff at that office. We have provided computer equipment, we have provided printer, scanner and the works.”

The Premier said that he is hopeful that even the government’s harshest critics will admit that it is a good step forward in terms of the governance structure of the island of Nevis.

According to Brantley, the initial spaces identified for the office was not to the liking of the opposition member forcing a delay in the operationalize of the office.
