Get involved…Pink Lily cancer awareness walkathon on 20th Oct

    October 10th, 2018 -- Pink Lily Cancer Care will host its annual cancer awareness walkathon on Saturday 20th  October 2018.

     

    Registration is on Wed 17th and Fri 19th October in Memorial square, Charlestown Nevis from 10am – 5pm/6pm. The registration pack includes a fabulous t-shirt, bandana, a nutritious breakfast, entertainment and a chance to win a fabulous prize.

    According to the charity’s Executive Director, Lea Parris-Cambridge, a breast cancer survivor, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Pink Lily Cancer Care is reinforcing it’s messages; “Prevention is better than cure, Know the signs and symptoms, do monthly self-examination, go for regular screening and the early detection of cancer saves lives. 

    The Executive Director also announced that Pink Lily is also celebrating it’s 10th Anniversary of serving the people of St. Kitts & Nevis and celebrating the lives of loved ones who died from cancer, the survivors who have overcome and beat cancer and the patients living with and currently undergoing lifesaving treatment.

    A series of activities are being coordinated  by the charity’s volunteers to mark the 10th anniversary.. Pink Lily kicked off “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” by giving talks; presented by Pink Lily Chair and Support Coordinator Tracy Parris for the staff at Nevis Tourism Authority staff and Grade 4 students at Joycelyn Liburd Primary School & Elizabeth Pemberton Primary School.
     
    On Saturday 20th October 2018 Pink Lily will host a special Celebrate Life 10th Anniversary Walk-a-thon and would like to express gratitude to the 2018 sponsors;  AMS Trustees (Nevis) Ltd, St. Kitts, Nevis & Anguilla National Bank, Development bank of St. Kitts & Nevis, Builders Paradise, National Caribbean Insurance, Le Bar@ Cliffdwellers, Sunshine’s Beach Bar & Grill, Tshirts1, Errol Pemberton, Boddies Café, Carl Claxton; who have helped to make this popular annual event possible.
     
    Pink Lily will be acknowledging its 2018 sponsors, the volunteers, contributors and all who joined hands to support Pink Lily Walk-A-thons, awareness campaigns and events over the last 10 years from February 2008 to October 2018.
     
    As part of the Celebrate Life 10th Anniversary, Pink Lily volunteers are calling on  Churches Islandwide to collaborate with Pink Lily and host a special service on Sunday 21st October to Thank God for cancer survivors and celebrate the lives of  loved ones, who died as a result of cancer. Church congregations are encouraged to say special prayers for bereaved families who have endured a difficult journey and  those currently undergoing lifesaving treatment 
     
    “Cancer can feel like a long and difficult journey. Losing a loved one is a time of deep sorrow and that loss stays with us. We feel our loved one is missing from our lives.  Without them, life will never be the same,” Lea stated.
     
    Just last month founder Lea Parris-Cambridge’s husbands said goodbye to his father who died from advanced prostate cancer and last year his aunt from breast cancer. Lea herself has said goodbye to personal friends and several Pink Lily friends in the last 18 months in St. Kitts, Nevis, Barbados, St. Vincent and England. 
     
    The last 10 years in St. Kitts and Nevis and the wider Caribbean, Pink Lily has said goodbye many, many times to loved ones and friends.
     
    To commemorate and as an ongoing remembrance and celebration of the lives of beloved fathers, mothers, wives, husbands, sons, daughters, sisters, brothers, grandmothers, grandfathers, uncles, aunts, cousins, friends, colleagues and neighbours, who were touched by cancer and have gone to be with the Lord; Pink Lily is creating a special Memory Book. A Gallery of photos, messages, poems and letters.
     
    Members of the public are  invited and encouraged  to share photos and memories of  loved ones with Pink Lily and celebrate their life, their memories together, their love, joy , laughter, tears, first moments, hellos and goodbyes.
     
    Lea further said, loved ones will always be remembered and memories treasured.

    She added:” The pain of loss will eventually go away but the love lasts for all eternity; until you meet again in God’s Paradise. Asking the question, what can we do together to ease the burden on families and how we can support one another..”
     
    Pink Lily Invites the general public to be a part of the Celebrate Life10th Anniversary, gather information, share memories, concerns, experiences and feedback . Also businesses and organizations to find out how cancer affects the workforce and community. 
     
    Pink Lily will be highlighting the importance of Lifestyle Changes in Nutrition, Exercise, Positive Mental Attitude, Mindfulness, Faith, Self-examinations and Screening.
     
    Pink Lily is hopeful that the nation will take more responsibility for the  health of its people, rehabilitation and recovery after illness; helping to prevent cancer, detect cancer earlier and quickly seek medical care and support.
     
    Pink Lily invites every man, woman and child to join the mission to save more precious lives and reduce the deaths to cancer in St. Kitts & Nevis. 
     
    Pink Lily does not work in isolation. The organisation reaches out  to partners and collaborates with all sectors of the community, for the benefit of the people of St. Kitts & Nevis.
     
    First Caribbean International Bank have generously chosen Pink Lily as beneficiary of their evening walk on Sunday 28th October. Pink Lily encourages the  general public to support the walk.
     
    Island Girls Rock have launched a pink t-shirt and are donating £2 for every pink t-shirt purchased.
     
    Pink Lily invites the Ministry of Health, Health Promotional Unit, Departments of Mental Health, Community Development, Social Services and Gender Affairs to join hands with Pink Lily Cancer Care; be a part of the celebrations and collaborate with Pink Lily.
