Coach Earl Jones said last week when his team drew 1-1 with Hobson Enterprises Garden Hotspurs that Newtown needed time to gel and adopt to his philosophy as a new coach. He also noted that his team had a lot of new players coming in on transfer and they would need time to get used to each other’s style of play. “Individually, players might be up to a level but team wise I think we can gel a little better and then you will start see the results we deserve,” he said after that match. Now, Coach Jones pointed to Sunday’s result as to what he was conveying the week before.

“That’s exactly what I am talking about. We really took it back to the training field from the last game. We had our opportunities from the last game. We had the opportunities in the last game but it’s just that we had to work on our finishing touches and it showed tonight…we just got to keep what we did and just improve on it a little more,” Jones said.

Meanwhile, assistant coach of Village Superstars Stephen Clarke said his team made too many mistakes defensively and were punished. “Congrats to Newtown. They played a good game. Mistakes cost us. We made a few mistakes, they capitalized on them and it’s hard to play from behind.
