By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SEVERAL members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force have been elevated in rank yesterday (Aug. 7) with effect from Wednesday, July 1, 2009.

Commissioner of Police Austin Williams confirmed to SKNVibes that 24 police officers were promoted to Substantive and Acting Sergeants as well as to Substantive Corporals respectively. He also informed that eight of them are stationed in Nevis and the remainder in St. Kitts.

Those promoted to the rank of Substantive Sergeant are Corporals Joseph Gerald, James Hazel and Lorenzo Williams; while Corporals Joel Caines and Gwendolyn Duncan have been elevated to Acting Sergeants.

Nineteen Constables have been promoted to the rank of Substantive Corporals. They are Oral Liburd, Marva Chiverton, Lewis Welsh, Mitchel Hobson, Reynold Myers, Daniel Jacobs, Winston Thompson, Carlene Phipps, Hyacinth Taylor, John Bergan, Sophia Henry, Carl Greaux, Rosemarie Roberts, Eurita Collins-Percival, Donna Henderson, Ray Gordon, Delroy Harris, Irving Bradshaw and Alrick Edwards.

Commissioner Williams explained that the official ceremony took place at his office in the presence of gazetted officers.

He told the newly-promoted officers that just as rewards are attached to their news posts, they come with additional responsibilities which require increased commitment to efficiently and effectively fulfill them.

“I wish to say to you all that you are amongst the best we have in the organisation. Promotion brings with it more money. It also brings with it an increase in responsibility and, for most, an increase in administrative paperwork. The core values of the Police Force - fairness, integrity, respect, service and teamwork - have not changed. Even though you might be challenged by your new roles, you won’t disappoint any one,” Williams said.

The officers were congratulated on their new posts and reminded of the Commissioner’s expectations.

“I wish to congratulate all of you on your new appointment. I wish to see an overall improvement of performance leading to a better quality of service delivery to the public and enhancement of the image of the Police Force. Congratulations.”
