MoE and Independence Committee Host Elocution Competition

    (EMU) – St. Kitts, October 16, 2018 -- As part of the observance of the 35th Anniversary of Independence, the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Independence Committee has organized an Elocution Competition for students of the various primary schools.  

     

    The objective of the contest is to provide an opportunity to bring out the talent of youths and develop their oratory skills. The Ministry of Education and the Independence Committee is proud of all the students who entered into this year’s Elocution Competition. Students were encouraged to show their patriotism in positive and impactful renditions under the theme for this year’s independence celebrations; ‘Love, Service, Patriotism and Pride: Independence 35.’

    On October 10th the semi-finals were conducted and the winners are as follows; Elyadel Collins of the Beach Allen Primary School and Brianna Paul of the Tucker Clarke Primary were adjudged the winners for the Basseterre Zone. West Zone winners were Kilan Burnham from the Sandy Point Primary and Khalill Mils of the Newton Ground Primary. T’Andre Burroughs and Dervonje Stokes of the Cayon Primary and Joshua O. Williams Primary, respectively, came out on top for the East Zone. 

    “Each student that has participated is unique and it is exciting to witness the pride they’ve exhibited while performing,” said Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Vincent Hodge. “It is important to recognize all those who contributed to the various competitions, teachers who assisted the students with their piece, parents and guardians who attended and of course the 35th Anniversary Independence Committee that made this event possible.” 

    The finals for the elocution competition will be held on Wednesday 17th October at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank commencing at 7:00 p.m.  

    The Ministry of Education is extending an invitation to all, to witness the confidence and poise of the students as they showcase their inherent talents and skills.
