Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 24, 2018 – Leader of the Opposition, the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has expressed condolences to the Government and People on the recent train disaster which claimed the lives of nearly two dozen persons and left close to 190 injured.
“I express my condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for the train accident that killed 18 people and left 187 persons injured,” said Dr. Douglas on Tuesday night.
“This is indeed a grave tragedy and my sympathies go out to the families and loved ones of those persons who were affected in this accident,” he told listeners to his weekly radio programme “Ask the Leader” on Kyss 102.5 FM.
The former prime minister noted the “20 years we were in government, the relationship between the ROC (Taiwan) and St. Kitts and Nevis was a blessing to us all.”
The Puyuma Express 6432 service derailed close to Xinma station, near the town of Su'ao, about 70km from the territory's capital Taipei.
