October 18th, 2018 -- Another amazing fund raising and community event was hosted on Saturday 6th October when the Royal St Kitts Golf Course was awash with vibrant orange for the 9th Annual St Christopher Children’s Home Family Walk Run which was held to raise funds for the upcoming year. As in previous years, the registration process was beautifully managed and executed by members of the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine where entrants received their event t-shirt, race number and BBQ meal ticket for the post race refreshment for the 1400 plus persons who participated.
The event would not be the same without Mr X warming up the crowd with his entertaining exercise routine, which allows all ages to enjoy and, as in the past, this was a true family affair with babies in strollers right up to more mature persons who enjoyed the level pace of the walk route.
“2018 has been a difficult year for local businesses who make up the majority of our corporate sponsors which has resulted in a decline of confirmed sponsors this year,” commented Kym Taylor – Chairperson of the St Christopher Children’s Home Board, “ but without these amazing corporate citizens and Ugo Gagliardi of the Royal Beach Casino driving the Fund Raising Committee we would be unable to have another successful event.”
“We, as always reaffirm our commitment to continue to provide the much needed support and refuge needed by the Federation’s at risk younger members of the community and the amazing response to the event enforces the support the Home has from public. Whilst we continue to face challenges to provide all the services required on a consistent basis especially with regard to counseling and psychological testing, we know we are making a difference, one child at a time and will continue to do so.”
Ms Margaret Stevens, Administrator and currently “Mummy” to the children at the Home concurred. “Every year the response from the business and private sector encourages us to continue with the struggles to secure financing and services the children need to become better equipped to stand on their own when they leave us.
The support shown to us today by everyone here in person and with their bright event shirts and those companies who are overseas is heart warming and all I can say is thank you from the bottom of my heart. With fluctuating numbers of children requiring what we provide, and as the only Children’s Home of its kind in the Federation, today’s event and the funds raised, has provided the means for the Home to continue for another year in providing these much needed services.”
After the race the participants enjoyed a BBQ lunch kindly provided by the Marriott and had the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for the draw held during the afternoon. Prizes for the top male and female runners were as usual presented. Special thank you’s to the following persons and companies who provided raffle prizes are also recognised: Sugar City Adventures Segway Tours, Leeward Island Charters, Blue Water Safaris, Corks and Screws, Paint and Sip with Sasha the Artist, St Kitts Scenic Railway, Sky Safaris, Fairway Inn, Alliance Francais, Chop Shop, Reggae Beach Bar, Spice Mill, Marshalls Restaurant, IC Jewellers, The St Kitts Chocolate Factory, Flow and Daly’s Cleaning Services.
The St. Christopher Children’s Home and Service League wishes to acknowledge and wholeheartedly thank the Marriott Group of companies and the Royal Beach Casino for reaching out, organising, hosting and subsidising the event, the over 40 individuals and companies who so generously sponsored the event, the 50 plus enthusiastic volunteers who have donated their time and especially Ms Tina Papies from Scene St Kitts who had recorded the day in photographs for us all to enjoy. Lastly we cannot not thank the 1,000 participants of all ages, who made the event such a success.
“We are very aware that without our kindhearted sponsors, the majority of our success today would not be possible” stated Kym Taylor, “and we would like to recognize and thank each of them including Bedford Investments, BitCoin, Christophe Harbour, Cogen/Royal Utilities, Extreme Air, Galaxy/Ramada,International Investments, JDMI Jones Deslauriers, Royal St Kitts/TransAmerica, Marriott Vacation Club International, Carib Crafts and Graphics, St Kitts Marriot Hotel, Royal Beach Casino and the Royal St Kitts Golf Club.
