Weekend Vibes: Culturama’s Kaiso and Queen Competitions

Ghetto Kid
By: Nevis Bureau, SKNVibes
CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – CULTURAMA 35 officially ended on Tuesday (Aug. 4) after an intense weekend of activities. Chief among these activities were the Kaiso Competition and the Miss Culture Queen Pageant. As usual, the Kaiso Competition generated much controversy and, although the new queen was unchallenged, there were some murmurings concerning the other placings in the pageant. Weekend Vibes asked Nevisians their opinions.

Ghetto Kid – The Kaiso crown suppose to stay in Nevis no matter what, because they don’t give us no crown, don’t care how good we do. But it was judged fairly. The Queen Show was fair also but Tamarell was supposed to be Second Runner-up.

Mad Links – The Queen Show was good because I was backing Masinda. She was more relaxed and natural. The other girls were pushing themselves to be more than what they are, and when it came to the question part they started flopping. Masinda deserved the crown. I-Soursop deserved the crown also. He performed well.

Colin Tyrel – The Kaiso Show was not up to the usual standard. I thought Dis ‘n’ Dat deserved the crown but the judges’ decision is final. I did not go to the Queen Show so I don’t have any thoughts about it.

Tamarell – Personally, I don’t think the crown should have gone to St. Kitts, because there is no way a Nevisian could go St. Kitts and win a crown. About the Queen Show, I think I deserved a place but the judges’ decisions are final.

Pierre – They need to get overseas judges to judge Culturama events. Concerning the Kaiso Show, I think once you perform exceptionally well the crown deserves to be yours and the king got his crown, also the queen but the Runners-up for the Queen Show was not judged fairly.

Chris – It is my personal opinion that politics played a part in the outcome of the Calypso Competition. I have listened to both singers, the King and the Runner-up, and I am flabbergasted as to how I-Soursop cannot even make St. Kitts finals and became our 35th Anniversary King. All I have to say is Nevis still nice. The Queen got her just reward.
