CHARLESTOWN NEVIS   (AUGUST 07, 2009) – Former workers of the Four Seasons Resort on Nevis have cause to celebrate this weekend over news that those who qualified would receive their severance payments on Monday.

Chief Labour Officer on Nevis Mrs. Averil Williams made the announcement on Friday, almost 5 months after 600 workers were made redundant earlier this year.

“The severance payments for qualified applicants terminated from employment at the Four Seasons Resorts are now ready for collection. All payments will be made by cheque. Distribution of notice letters and cheques will take place on Monday 10 August at the auditorium of the Charlestown Secondary School (CSS).

“The distribution will be carried out according to alphabetical order of surnames of recipients…Persons whose surnames begin with letters A-F from 9 to 10:30am, G-O from 10:30 to 12pm; P-Z 12pm to 1pm. All persons collecting letters and cheques must bring along a picture ID and their Social security number,” she said.

According to Mrs. Williams, representatives from the Nevis Labour Department and the Nevis Treasury Department will be at the school’s auditorium to serve them.

Notwithstanding, the Chief labour Officer advised that any person who had the authorisation to collect the notice letter and cheque on behalf of another person should not come to the CSS auditorium.

Instead, those persons should collect the notice letter at the Department of labour on Tuesday August 11, 2009 or thereafter and must have a photo ID of themselves and the letter of authorisation.

Mrs. Williams also craved the full corporation of all concerned so that the payments would be conducted in a smooth and orderly fashion.

“The Departments of labour, St. Kitts and Nevis and the Treasury departments, St. Kitts and Nevis would like to thank you in advance and wish you every success in the management of your monies,” she said.

The workers had been laid off from the Resort in March to allow reconstruction work on the hotel which was adversely affected by the passage of Hurricane Omar the year before.
