BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, November 2, 2018 (PLP PR Media Inc.) -- Defending champions Lodge, on Thursday 1st November, literally snatched defeat from the jaws of victory as they went down to Parsons in the first encounter of best of three finals in the 23rd edition of the annual Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League competition. Parsons beat Lodge 13-11.

Lodge Community Centre in Lodge Project was the venue of the first of best of three finals of the longest running domino league competition in the Federation. It is sponsored by Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, Area Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher Seven and Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. Prime Minister Harris is this month celebrating the 25th anniversary since he became a parliamentarian in November 1993.

The match that attracted a handful but ferocious spectators, who are mostly domino players themselves, took the seriousness it deserves. Players were barricaded and spectators had to stand behind the barriers. Each of the two tables had a referee, Eric Monzac for table one and Norris Sharry for table two, while Hope Bradley was the scorer for table one, and Diane Byron-Monzac the scorer for table two.

Parsons Domino Club from Constituency Number Six, who have made history by being the first team from outside Constituency Number Seven to reach the finals the domino league, came from behind twice to draw the first blood by winning the hotly contested match 13-11.

The club now only needs to win during their second encounter on Tuesday November 6 to take the championship to Constituency Number Six. If defending champions Lodge win in the second encounter, it will trigger the third and final match which should be held on Thursday November 8.

Lodge started by taking the first game from table one, second game from table two, and third game from table one. With Parsons not having scored anything, they changed the players on table one and brought in two youthful players, Kyle Huggins and Marc Williams, who made an instant difference by scoring a double to take the game to 2-3. They then equalised through a point coming out of table two, and in quick time added a double point to take the points to 5-3 in their favour.

At this point Lodge changed players on table two and that helped as they tied the game at 5-5 with a point coming from each table. The defending champions surged on, with most of the action being recorded from table one of O’Niel Thomas and McAllister Thomas. They then took the game (in their favour) to 8-5, then to 9-8, and finally to 11-8 when it all appeared as if they were going to take the match.

Parsons at this stage smelling defeat brought in their lone female player, Glenda Romney, who played opposite Elvis Norford on table one and magically reversed their fortunes in a game they were trailing 0-66 to take it at 122-77 to send the score to 10-11.

Parsons’ Captain, Colonel Mills, playing opposite Ashton Williams on table two won a game at 11:24 pm to tie the scores at 11-11. Glenda Romney and Elvis Norford won another game at 11:43 pm to take the lead with 12-11, and ten minutes later at 11:53 pm, Captain Colonel Mills and Ashton Williams on table two delivered the winning score to take the match 13-11.

Even with the unexpected loss, O’Niel Thomas and McAllister Thomas of Lodge playing on table one were adjudged the match’s MVPs having won a total of eight games. Thiers was the only pair that did not vacate their position for the entire match.

The two teams will now meet on Tuesday November 6 at the same venue for the second encounter in best of three finals in the 23rd edition of the annual Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League competition. Action will however return to the Lodge Community Centre on Monday November 5 when Giants will meet Molineux for the finals of Best of the Rest.
