By: NIA, Press Release

Ottawa, Canada (November 02, 2018) – At a signing ceremony in Ottawa, Her Excellency High Commissioner Sherry Tross and Dr. Benoit-Antoine Bacon, President and Vice Chancellor of Carleton University inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to pursue collaboration in education, research and capacity building, and to promote bilateral and international understanding.

The MOU, the first of its kind between the university and a government, comes after seven months of discussions geared toward expanding engagement in Ottawa beyond the traditional government to government dialogue, and to partner with centres of excellence in areas that are mutually beneficial.

The Memorandum of Understanding envisions education and research opportunities, training and joint projects in areas such as innovation, diplomacy, climate action and workforce development.

Ms. Sherry Tross praised recent efforts at raising the profile of Carleton University in St. Kitts and Nevis through the just concluded CFBC Study Fair that was held in Basseterre.  She also heralded the opportunities that will exist, through the MoU, to make the renowned institution an academic destination of excellence for Kittitian and Nevisian students. The university is also well positioned to be a valuable research partner.

The high commissioner seized the opportunity to congratulate the newly installed president/vice chancellor. She also issued an invitation, on behalf of the Federation’s Foreign Minister, Hon. Mark Brantley, to the president and his team to visit St. Kitts and Nevis as we concretize areas of joint action.

Carleton University is Canada’s capital university and is a comprehensive research institution of higher learning with approximately 30,000 students from 150 countries enrolled across its undergraduate and graduate programmes.
