BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER eight months of uncertainty, Commissioner of Police Austin Williams has promised that the Strategic Plan for the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force would be released by this month’s end.

Every couple of years the police force releases a strategic plan which outlines measures that the institution intends to implement during the period which the plan spans. According to information reaching SKNVibes, the last plan published by the force expired in December 2008 and a new plan was to have been devised for 2009-2011.

Nearing the close of last year and the following months, this media house made inquiries of the Commissioner of Police and the Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Cromwell Henry, on the availability of the document for public perusal and analysis.

The responses were varied and included each party suggesting that the other be contacted for a conclusive response. A few months ago, this media house was told that the document is being printed and should be available shortly.

Last week, SKNVibes had audience with Commissioner Williams and when questioned about the 2009-2011 Police Strategic Plan he promised that it would be available “by the end of the month”.

“I want to promise you that it will be released later this month. I have spoken to Inspector Henry and I think it is at print at the moment.”

Williams noted that the plan, which was devised by the Force’s High Command with input from the Ministry of National Security and the Force Personnel Officer, “covers about eight broad sections including: SWOT Analysis, Development and Policing Implications, Crime Statistics, Strategic Objectives and Timelines and Performance Indicators.”

Notwithstanding the fact that the plan is yet unpublished, the Commissioner noted that implementation of a number of the measures outlined in the plan has already begun.

“I am confident that the implementation of the strategic plan will drive the crime rate downwards,” the COP expressed.
