BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, November 7, 2018 (PLP PR Media Inc.) -- Defending champions Lodge Domino Club, facing intense pressure from Parsons Domino Club, early Wednesday morning 7th November won by the skin of their teeth to trigger a third match in best of three finals in the 23rd edition of the annual Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League competition.
The match in the longest running domino league in the Federation which was played at the Lodge Community Centre in Lodge Project was watched by among others the league’s sponsor, Prime Minister and Area Parliamentary Representative Dr the Hon Timothy Harris.
Parsons had beaten Lodge 13-11 in the first best of three finals on Thursday last week, but early today (Wednesday) morning Lodge edged Parsons 13-12 in a match whose one final game on table two saw Parsons’ players and spectators contesting the decision of the referee after they accused a player on the Lodge team of cheating.
When the match started, Lodge had a slim lead of 3-1, but Parsons levelled it at 3-3, and even went ahead to have it at 3-5 (in favour of Parsons), but Lodge scored a double from table two to have the scores at 6-5 and immediately added another point to make it 7-5 in their favour.
At 9:56 pm Parsons scored a point from table two and in less than half a minute Lodge scored a point from table one. Lodge kept on the slim lead but when they were at 12-9, Parsons’ players on table two reduced the Lodge scores to 12-10 and those on table one reduced the Lodge scores further to 12-11.
In what ended up being the final game on table two, Parsons’ players were leading on points but at 11:47 pm there were shouts from the players watching the game that a Lodge player had cheated. Referee Eric Monzac (from table one) forced them to leave the room and he locked them out. Parsons’ players on the table, Marc Williams and Jedidiah Locker, were composed as referee Norris Sharry urged them to continue with play which resumed at 11:53 pm.
While confusion reigned on table two, Parsons’ players on table one won a game at 12:14 am, and equalised the scores at 12-12. However, just two minutes later, Lodge won the disputed game on table two to carry the match at 13-12. Scorers were Hope Bradley for table one and Diane Byron-Monzac for table two.
The two teams will meet for the decider match tomorrow, Thursday November 8. The winner will be crowned the 2018 Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League champions. However, word reaching this media is that Parsons have written a protest note to the league coordinator Calvin Farrell.
In the meantime, action returns to the Lodge Community Centre tonight (November 7) at 7:30 pm with the final match of Best of the Rest competition taking place between Molineux and Giants. Molineux won in the first encounter held on Monday November 5 and if they win tonight, they will be declared the winners. If Giants win, the ‘Super 100’ rule will apply to break the deadlock.
