Basseterre, St. Kitts & Nevis, 16 November 2018: The Christmas season means Carnival in St. Kitts and Nevis, and once again Caribbean Lottery is joining the fun. They are providing EC$4,700 worth of sponsorship for the popular “Tek Dat Wildkats” J’ouvert troupe, which is planning to take Basseterre’s annual celebration by storm on Boxing Day – Wednesday, December 26, 2018.
The handover of funds to the J’ouvert troupe took place on November 15, ahead of the official opening of Carnival festivities on November 23rd. The troupe will officially launch on December 17 at the opening of Entertainment Avenue, when a glow parade will also take place.
“We are expecting at least a thousand people to join our troupe,” said Wayne Clarke, who is managing the group for the second time this year. The Wildkats festivities will begin at the 17 Degrees venue at midnight on Boxing Day. “We will hit the streets of Basseterre at 4 a.m.,” added Mr. Clarke. He noted that five deejays and two soca artistes will provide music. The official costume for the group will consist of T shirts and bodysuits, he noted.
“We are delighted to make this contribution to St. Kitts’ vibrant cultural landscape during the festive season,” said Caribbean Lottery’s Business Development Associate, Sabina Harrinarain. “We are sponsoring this popular group for the first time and they have a great line up of entertainers this year. We look forward to celebrating a lively Christmas with our young people.”
Nightly events will take place on Entertainment Avenue in Basseterre throughout the Christmas period, from December 17 until January 5, 2019, as part of the St. Kitts and Nevis “Sugar Mas” Carnival celebrations. This is the only Carnival event in the Caribbean that takes place during the Christmas season on the island of St. Kitts.
