Coach Stephen Clarke, while wanting a win, was content with the one point earned from the draw. “I will take the one point. It was a very hard fought game but I rather three points. I go back home with one (point). I am at the top of the table, we end the first round—I will go back home with one point,” Coach Clarke said. St. Paul’s player Taju Clarke commended the effort of his team to hold on to the result. “If we couldn’t get the win, we were hoping for the draw and we got the draw,” Clarke said.

On Sunday, the shock results continued with Mantab edging out Elco Ltd. St. Peters 2-1.

The final match of the evening saw:

    SOL I.A.S CONAREE   0 - 0 FLOW 4G CAYON
Assistant coach for Cayon Jazza Buchanan said after the match that while they wanted a win, the match was a perfect opportunity to blood the young players. “Good game. I think I saw a lot more coming out from the youngsters…I was impressed to see how the youngsters are playing. The more and more we play them, the more I am seeing the confidence,” Buchanan said.

The draw against Conaree locked in the fourth position for Cayon which means they will be competing in this season’s Carnival Cup in two weeks. That, Buchanan says means a lot to Cayon. “We are going in the Carnival Cup to win because the Carnival Cup is open for anybody to win… it’s like a fresh start. It’s four teams in there and anybody can win it. It’s not about who ahead with the most points, it’s all about you doing your job and finish it and come out on top,” he said.

Coach Alexis Morris is disappointed with the result, as he was hoping for a win and a chance to compete in the Carnival Cup. “It’s quite unfortunate that we did not get the three points we were looking for…we were there from the inception and not to be there this time around; its’ not the greatest of feelings,” he said. The coach noted that it appeared as if his players were tired and they were not able to capitalize on the chances they created.

The National Bank Premier League begins round two this weekend before the Carnival Cup the following weekend, which would round out the games for the calendar year and the Christmas/Carnival break.
