2019 Ready: Power Moves Empowerment Brunch

By: Empowerment Brunch, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts (January 17, 2019) - Twelve women under the age of 35 gathered on Sunday, January 13, for a Millennial Empowerment brunch hosted by Dentrecia Blanchette, Emotional Wellness Advocate.

With a lineup that included interactive plenary-style presentations from Coordinator of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Pastor Kay White, Counseling Psychologist, Zhara Jacobs, and Financial Expert, Marilyn Johnson, participants were treated to a space where they were able to explore emotional, financial and spiritual wellness and unpack the necessary skills needed to make the most out of this year. Participants also received complimentary breakfast and lunch, wellness packages and vision board materials to continue their self-work after the brunch.

Conceptualized by Dentrecia Blanchette, founder of Sugar For Your Heart Ministry, the brunch was the first of a series of community events and programs that she intends to host throughout the year that will be structured around unpacking emotional and spiritual wellness.

“When I started my Sugar For Your Heart Ministry, I was primarily focused on serving a digital community by equipping young persons with the right skills to thrive spiritually. Over the last few months, the mission of my ministry has expanded to include emotional and mental wellness, alongside spiritual health; and this year, I will continue to minister to my community online but I am also moving into several communities on island with emotional wellness programs, projects and campaigns, especially geared toward children, teens and young adults.”

According to Dentrecia, one of the major highlights of the event included participants pouring into one another and recommitting themselves to making their emotional and spiritual goals top priorities this year.

“I’m so happy that the ladies opened up and shared their own experiences. There were a lot of intimate moments that really allowed participants to learn of and from each other. I believe that type of honesty, vulnerability and community was just what a lot of the young women needed to start their year right.”

When asked how can young persons position themselves to make power moves in this new year, Dentrecia shared:

“We must first be clear about what we want to focus on and unafraid to regularly ask ourselves if our daily actions or behaviors are in line with our goals; and we must become okay with making adjustments and shifts toward better aligning our behaviors and actions with what we want. I also believe in the oxygen mask theory practice that says if you take care of yourself, you will be of better service to the people around you. Many young persons are focused on achieving goals while they neglect to take care of their emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Only when we focus on optimizing our wellbeing, through healthy practices, will the energy and focus to make quality decisions follow.”

The brunch was held at Ocean Terrace Inn.
