Basseterre, St. Kitts - The St. Christopher Children’s Home is the recipient of several educational and recreational materials from the City Drug Store (2005) Limited and the TDC Financial Services Company Limited.

The corporate contribution was made possible through an extension of the store’s annual Back to School Shop and Share initiative, dubbed Gift A Child This Christmas, which started on 3rd December 2018 and ended on 4th January 2019.

At a brief handing over ceremony on Wednesday 16th January, Mr. Evris Huggins, the Store Manager presented Ms. Margaret Stevens, the Home’s Administrator the donation valued at eleven hundred dollars (EC$1100.00).

In making the presentation, Mr. Huggins stated that “the expansion of the Shop and Share idea using a Christmas theme with a Santa sleigh in store was well received by staff, its customers, and further endorsed by the management of the TDC Financial Services Company Limited, who agreed to support the charitable cause.”

Huggins also noted that there are already discussions being held to continue the venture with the hope of making an even bigger donation to children, giving them more reasons to not only smile, but to share the holiday spirit, by giving back.

In response, Ms. Stevens spoke of the Home and the children’s appreciation for the welcomed gesture and made mention of the role they would play in helping with their development.

‘On behalf of the Board, staff and children, we really appreciate this gesture. These items will go a long way in supporting our own efforts to ensure that the children in our care benefit from their use in a very positive way.”

The Shop and Share venture was first introduced in July 2015.  Since then, over seventy-five children have benefited from the donation of teaching and learning aides to help them achieve greater success in and outside of the classroom environment.
