January 18th, 2019 -- Implementation of the pension plan for the Solid Waste Management Corporation (SWMC) and introduction of new uniforms for field staff, are some of the exciting new plans from the Solid Waste Management Corporation for 2019. Ms. Jamella Christopher, Human Resource Manager speaking on one of the recent editions of the corporation’s radio program Talking Trash on WINN FM 98.9, spoke to some of these initiatives. “(The pension plan) is something that persons are excited about. We have already sat down with our stakeholders. When it comes to staff, new uniforms are going to complement our new trucks,” she disclosed. “You are going see our brand out there even more. You are going to see our sweepers in proper uniforms. When you come to the landfill persons are going to be properly uniformed,” she added.

Ms. Christopher stressed that the corporation would have made some progress in 2018 as it relates its human resources. “(We) started with the retirement of our first ever general Manager and his operations manager Mr. Wilmon McCall. We moved forward in September in retiring him and quickly moved forward with our new General Manager Mr. Keithley Phillip and again building capacity with Ms. Candace Caines coming on board as our new Assistant General Manager,” she said.

Meanwhile, Ms. Christopher commended the SWMC workers on their valiant performance during the Christmas Carnival period. “I would like to thank the staff, specifically the persons that participated in our cleanup program. I want to thank the litter wardens and everybody who went out and helped to clean up after carnival,” she said.

General Manager Mr. Keithley Phillip who was also on the show, conveyed best wishes to staff and his predecessors. “I just want to give a big shout out to the hard working staff at the Solid Waste Management Corporation. You guys and girls who go out every day, ensuring that we keep our country clean. I must say big up to Mr. Bridgewater and Mr. McCall, those who would have carried the mantle for (many) years,” Mr. Phillip said. At the close of 2018, the SWMC reported major progress from a financial standpoint and announced major plans for 2019, including the introduction of new garbage trucks.
