Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 3rd 2019 – On Thursday 31st January, the Electoral Office released the Annual Register of Voters, the Monthly List for January and the Revised Monthly List for December 2018. These lists were posted as per legal requirement at two public and conspicuous places within each polling division of each constituency.
Copies of these said lists were collected at the Electoral Offices in Basseterre and in Charlestown and signed for by the assigned representatives of each political party.
These lists are intended to inform the general public of the registration activities of the Offices, and to invite the public comments via Claims and or Objections.
By nightfall of January 31st, many of these lists had been removed from the places where they were mounted.
The general public is reminded that removal, destroying or defacing of these documents is an offence, punishable upon conviction, according to the National Assembly Elections Act Cap 2.01, by a fine not exceeding EC $500.00 or a period of imprisonment not exceeding two months or both fine and imprisonment.
Further, the general public is hereby notified that production of the National Identification Cards has been temporarily halted as we seek to correct a breach of security surrounding the printing of the cards.
We expect to be back to full production capacity by the end of February.
Meanwhile, the registration of eligible persons will continue apace as the problem has not affected the registration process.
We wish to thank the public for its patience and understanding as we strive to deliver excellent customer service.
