February 5th, 2019 -- Only one point now separates defending champions Rams Village Superstars and former champions S-Krave Newtown United after both teams endured contrasting results in the SKNFA National Bank Premier League on the Weekend. At the St. Mary’s Park in Cayon on Sunday night, Newtown dismissed home side Flow Cayon Rockets 2-1.

At the end of the match, Coach Earl Jones of Newtown said the display of his team’s performance reflects his attacking football philosophy. “We were on them from the whistle blew,” Coach Jones said. He said his players remembered a defeat they suffered at the hands of Cayon some years ago on Newtown’s home ground and they planned to right that wrong. “We stuck to the game plan. They remembered some years ago when the league was played in Newtown and they beat us…they decided that they are coming here not only to defeat them by the same score line but by the run of play and the excellent football they showed tonight,” Coach Jones added.

Conaree player Kareem Mitchum said it was good for the team to get back to winning ways after losing to Newtown last week. “I think we could have scored more goals but give thanks for the two goals and the three points we got,” he said.

As for Jahren Leader, Player/Coach of Old Road, the team played a poor first half but improved in the second half. “I think we had a terrible first half in the sense that the wide players misunderstood the game and were not coordinating with one another. But we had a much better second half when we sat, talked over the game. You could see the results, we didn’t give up any goals in the second half. I think we should go from the second half and go from there,” Leader said. Asked about the state of his team with the mass departures in the January transfer window he said: “I am trying to build back the team. We lost a lot of players to the transfer window. A lot of (players are injured) right now but we are just trying our best to bounce back because we have a lot of football to play still and I think we can do it,” he added.
