ICC Host Liaison Officer Chris Tetley addresses the Jamaica Stakeholders Road Show.
    Kingston
, Jamaica  "The University of the West Indies" Cave Hill Campus could well be among the legacy beneficiaries of ICC Cricket World Cup 2007.
Venue Development Director of ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 Donald Lockerbie revealed last Thursday that the Barbados campus of the regional institution is seeking to construct a permanent stadium in preparation for 3 Ws Oval to host warm-up Group D for the tournament in early 2007.

Addressing the final segment of the Stakeholders Road Show in Jamaica, he said UWI officials are "working towards a legacy of 2,000 to 4,000 permanent seating" for the venue which is named after the famed trio of West Indies players, the late Sir Frank Worrell (whose grave overlooks the campus), Sir Clyde Walcott and Sir Everton Weekes. The university ground is slated to host four practice fixtures featuring Bangladesh, New Zealand, Scotland and Sri Lanka from March 5-9, 2007.

Venue Development Director and Chief Operating Officer for ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 Donald Lockerbie focuses on his PowerPoint presentation on stadium development.
Lockerbie, who is also Chief Operating Officer, noted construction at warm-up facilities such as 3 Ws Oval and Brian Lara Stadium in San Fernando, Trinidad, would take total expenditure on stadium-building for ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 to more than US$260 million.

Reminding the audience at Jamaica Conference Centre that there is still one more hurricane season to negotiate before the Event, he said it is "very comforting" to have high-class, back-up venues like the Brian Lara Stadium, Arnos Vale in St. Vincent & the Grenadines and Greenfield Stadium in Trelawny, Jamaica, as "contingency plan venues" if any Host Venue is unable to fulfill its obligations.

Meanwhile, ICC Host Liaison Officer Chris Tetley stressed the prestige of the

West Indies hosting cricket's signature tournament and the importance of it being held to "world-class standards" throughout, noting the need to deliver the event to a consistent standard across all nine host countries.

"It's a responsibility and privilege to deliver ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 on behalf of all ICC (International Cricket Council) members&It's the pinnacle event in cricket," he said, adding that cricket depends on the multi-million-dollar investments from sponsors and, that in a competitive entertainment industry, sponsors' investments must be valued and protected.

If ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 is a resounding success, major corporations would likely be attracted to be commercial partners in future ICC tournaments.

"The ICC Cricket World Cup is the ICC's shop window. It's by far our biggest tournament&and we expect consistency of delivery and excellence of standard," elaborated Tetley.
