BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE on Nevis have taken into custody the driver of a pickup truck that was involved in the fatality of a motorcyclist in the Chicken Stone area on Tuesday (Feb. 5).

Dead is 44-year-old Stuart James David of New River Estate, who was employed at a mechanic shop in Nevis.

According to a police report, the accident occurred just after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday (Feb. 5) and had involved motorcycle P922, which was owned and driven by David, and pickup truck P2948, which is owned and was being driven by Orville Bartlette of Cole Hill, Gingerland.

Investigations by the lawmen have so far revealed that motorcycle was travelling from Gingerland heading towards Charlestown, while the pickup truck was travelling in the opposite direction.

However, upon approaching Chicken Stone, the motorcycle and the pickup truck two collided.

Reportedly, the impact had caused David to be thrown from the motorcycle and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have since taken Bartlette into custody to assist with further investigations into the matter.

David’s death marks the twin-island Federation’s first road fatality for the year.
