(EMU) – St. Kitts, February 7, 2019: On the helm of the highly anticipated Special Olympics World Games, Special Olympics St. Kitts and Nevis (SOSKN) conducted a board training workshop for current and prospective board members.

The workshop held at the Police Training Complex on Saturday 2nd February was conducted by Beau Doherty, President of Special Olympics Connecticut. Mr. Doherty urged the participants to continue to work together and develop best practices of good governance and accountability, “The way you develop partnership in this country is extraordinary, the way you work and tie organizations together is a phenomenal thing and that flexibility is what will take things into the future.”

Exchange visits, monetary contributions and joint programme development are a few benefits of the relationship between SOSKN and its sister organization from Connecticut, U.S.A, which was signed in 2010.

National Director, Ivor Blake highlighted that having these training sessions is always a positive thrust for prospective members, “The SOSKN intends to expand our program but to do that we need more volunteers and coaches.” He elaborated that a diverse board is needed to propel the organization.  “Our aim is all-round training for our athletes so they could compete. We intend to introduce badminton and golf to our players, and also reintroduce football and basketball to our catalogue.”

SOSKN announced its full delegation of athletes, coaches and officials to represent the Federation at the upcoming Special Olympics World Games to be held in Abu Dhabi, UAE from 15-21 March, 2019. The delegation will comprise thirteen athletes, six coaches, a medical staff and three officials.
