BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - EXECUTIVES of the 2009 highly anticipated Irie Jamboree Festival announced that reggae legends Freddy McGregor, Ken Boothe and Sugar Minott would be hounded at the event for their Lifetime Achievement Awards following their outstanding contribution to the reggae industry.

According to VP of Irie Jam, the three artistes have not only had a huge impact on reggae in Jamaica but they have also transformed the music as a whole internationally.

Also to be honoured is newly-crowned King of the Dancehall Beenie Man, who will receive the 2009 Reggae Soldier Award for 30 years of outstanding contribution to the reggae industry, while platinum selling reggae icon Shaggy, the biggest crossover success in dancehall and the genre's most commercially potent artiste on the international market, will be presented with the Reggae Ambassador award.

The festival, which is in its seventh annual staging, will be held at the York College in New York on September 6 as part of the 2009 Labour Day celebrations under the theme “History of Jamaica's Indigenous Music”.

Grammy winner Sean Paul, Mr. Vegas, TOK, Assassin, Spice, Chino, Barbee, Anthony Cruz, Laden, Lady G, Queen Ifrica, Bushman, Ras Shiloh, Ras Penco, Natural Blacks and Gramps Morgan are some of the artistes scheduled to rock the crowd at the event.
