East Basseterre Young Pamites Continue to Lead by Example!!

East Basseterre Young Pamites: ‘The Young Warriors

Basseterre, St. Kitts - The East Basseterre Young Pamites do not just talk the talk. We walk the walk. Driven by our unwavering commitment to enhance the quality of life for all Constituents, the Young Pamites of East Basseterre set out shortly after 5 a.m. today Sunday, 16th August, and readily rolled up our sleeves for an environmental cleanup of a quarter-mile stretch on Pond Road in Newtown.

Residents of the East Basseterre Community have complained for some time about the excessive amount of tall bush and weeds that had been growing untamed all along Pond Road. Much of the unsightly bush had been waist-high and had protruded some two to three feet out into the road on the northern side. The residents had further complained that the bush and tall grass were harbouring centipedes, insect pests, and disease-carrying vermin such as rats, and was therefore a significant health hazard.

Rather than sit on our hands and ignore the legitimate complaints of our fellow Constituents, the East Basseterre Young Pamites led by Glenroy “Mr. Fix-It” Blanchette proactively responded to these concerns and took the initiative to resolve them.

Glenroy, the next Parliamentary Representative for East Basseterre, is himself passionate about the upkeep of our environment and possesses a wealth of experience and qualifications relating to environmental care, preservation and development. The Young Pamites draw great inspiration from his serious commitment to keeping our environment clean, a commitment which the current Parliamentary Representative has demonstrated time and again that he lacks immensely.

As the Young Pamites worked tirelessly to remove the hazardous overgrowth which filled several dozens of hefty-duty garbage bags, many passersby commended our exemplary efforts and expressed their gratitude, giving thumbs-up signs, honking their car horns in support and shouting “Great work!” and “Lovely job!” A few Pond Road residents were so moved by the initiative of the Young Pamites that they too rolled up their sleeves, brought a machete or a rake from their homes nearby, and chipped in to assist.

Businessman Wayne Phillip popularly known as ‘Piece a Man’, one of the owners of the Top Class barbershop on Pond Road, was deeply impressed by the resolve of the youths to take the lead in beautifying our environment. He was very happy and thankful to see that all the bush and grass which had brought down the visual appeal of the Pond Road area for so long had now been removed. He was confident that his clients who have to travel along Pond Road would be equally appreciative of our efforts as well.

Several Pond Road residents were also taken aback by the remarkable results that the environmental clean-up produced and said that their hearts were warmed to see young people taking it upon themselves to make a difference in their community. One of them, George Manners, declared: “It was very good to see young people get out of their warm beds so early in the morning and do something meaningful for the community. Pond Road is a road which people are always using including [current Parliamentary Representative] Asim Martin. It is good that Glenroy and his team chose to clean up the area and make it look like people live here."

The East Basseterre Young Pamites are humbled by all the positive feedback we have already received from our fellow Constituents. We are increasingly encouraged and energised by their overwhelming support. Standing firmly behind our Candidate, Glenroy Blanchette, and the People’s Action Movement who are ready to serve and prepared to govern, we further pledge ourselves to continue to lead by example in addressing and rectifying the issues that matter to the people of East Basseterre. One and all may rest assured that there are many more good works to come from the East Basseterre Young Pamites.
