CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – A man in Nevis is currently in police custody after an illegal firearm and a quantity of ammunition were found in a vehicle that he was driving.

According to a police communiqué, ranks from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force were engaged in a joint Stop and Search Operation in Charlestown, Nevis on Wednesday (Feb. 13).

During the Operation a vehicle was stopped and a searched revealed the find of a Glock .40mm Pistol with 10 matching rounds.

The driver, along with the pistol, ammunition and the vehicle, were taken into police custody, as is the practice in such cases.

The communiqué also stated that this is the third firearm to be taken into police custody for the year.

“However, the Police are aware that there are more to be taken off the streets of our communities. While Officers and Soldiers continue doing their part to keep St. Kitts and Nevis safe, a call is being made to all citizens and residents to play their role by sharing information with the Police or by reporting suspicious activity using the crime hotline 707,” it added.
