One in police custody for domestic violence

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JUST two days after a domestic dispute that resulted in the death of a man who had stabbed his wife multiple times, an individual is currently in police custody for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend.

    According to a police statement, Veronica Thomas of Cardin Avenue, Basseterre was “stabbed and wounded several times with a knife about the body by her boyfriend”. 

    The incident, which stemmed from a domestic dispute, occurred sometime after 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 20).

    Thomas was transported to the JNF Hospitalm where she was treated for her injuries and subsequently discharged.

    Her boyfriend, according to the police, is in custody assisting with investigations into the matter.

    The police are appealing to anyone who might have any information regarding this incident to contact the Special Victims Unit by dialling 465-2241 ext. 4232/4253, or via cell phone at 665-3091, or by contacting the nearest police station.

    At about 1:30 a.m. on Monday (Feb. 18), police had responded to a dispute between Leroy Henry and his wife Unella Henry of Upper Malone Avenue, McKnight.

    According to a police communiqué, “Preliminary investigations so far have revealed that upon arrival, Police met Leroy Henry attacking Mrs. Henry with a knife. The Police discharged his firearm at Mr. Henry. 

    “Preliminary reports also indicate that Mr. Henry attempted to take his own life with the knife. The Emergency Medical Service was summoned to the scene and Mrs. Henry was transported to the JNF Hospital for medical attention. She sustained stab wounds about the body and a knife wound to her neck.” 

    It also stated that Mrs. Henry is currently warded in a stable condition and that her husband was pronounced dead at the scene by the District Medical Doctor. 

    The communiqué further stated that an autopsy “will be performed on the body of Mr. Henry to determine the cause of death”.
